The Mayor of Totana, José Martínez Andreo, and the Councillor for Tourism, Ana Belén García López, presented publicly through the brochure which promotes one of the most beautiful tourist attractions of Totana, the Via Crucis of the Shrine of Santa Eulalia Merida.
This booklet, large print and photographic qualities, includes each of the Stations of the Cross, culminating with the monument to the Sacred Heart, a sculpture of 9 meters high, which rises 11 meters more to a chapel in the lower .
In addition, you can see in the prospectus the facility of the Sanctuary and the most important monuments of Totana.
The mayor of Culture explained that they have released about 3,000 copies of this booklet and can be collected at the Tourist Office, located in the Town Hall.
García López pointed out that this Via Crucis is incorporated into the whole shrine dedicated to the patron of Totana, and was held in the year 1965, placing the stations in communion with nature and opened in 1,970.
It has also indicated that parts of the Cross are made of artificial stone, and have a total of 33 pieces.
For his part, Mayor of Totana recalled that the publication of this booklet and its dissemination to visitors, is a step in the work that is being developed in the preparation of the Tourism Promotion Plan of the municipality.
Thus, Martínez Andreo explained that with the enhancement of one of the most beautiful places in Totana, such as the Via Crucis, generating more added value to tourism for the municipality.
City Councilman stated that that campaign is successful, moreover, that the citizen can take home a little more about the history of the town, thanks to the technical and graphic qualities of the document.
In addition, Martínez Andreo recalled that in 2005-2006 was carried out comprehensive rehabilitation of all seasons thanks to the collaboration of the Ministry of Tourism under the hand of the sculptor Anastasio Martinez Valcárcel, precisely, the author who made the sculpture in 1968.
However, Martínez Andreo has encouraged residents and visitors to visit the Via Crucis, especially considering that in a few days celebrating the festival of Santa Eulalia, and pick up the brochure in the tourist offices.
