The Councillor for Environment, Trini Cayuela, has reported that once again the city of Totana will join the European initiative called "Improving the climate of your city's Town Without My Car!", To be held on 22 September, aimed at raising public awareness of the need for a new urban mobility, avoiding the inconvenience caused by the irrational use of the car in the city.
Thus, as reported by the Councillor for the Environment, Trini Cayuela, through the signing of the Accession Letter "the City agrees to take one more step in a long-term initiative, aimed at raising the general public on the need for a new urban mobility, avoiding the inconvenience caused by the irrational use of the car in the city "
The City Council of Totana, along with the environmental policy being developed, aims through this initiative, including encouraging citizen behavior consistent with sustainable urban development, raise public awareness about the environmental impacts of transport and their different modes use, giving citizens an opportunity to use alternative means of transport to the car and offer citizens the chance to rediscover the city, its people and its cultural heritage, in a healthy and relaxed.
Thus, the municipality will join this day of "European Car Free Day" closing downtown streets to traffic from the town of 09:00 hours to 18:00 hours.
To inform citizens about the day we will install a Mobile Information Point (MIP) in the Plaza of the Constitution where environmental volunteers Municipal Volunteer Service of the Department of Citizenship distributed leaflets.
The area considered Pedestrian Priority Zone will run from Lorca Avenue at the height of the Canada Zamora through the Plaza of the Constitution until Pilar Street.
It has also restricted the street traffic from the Knights General Aznar to the Plaza de la Constitution.
In all this area will be established checkpoints and information and it may be giving way to public transport and special vehicles such as ambulances, police, fire brigade.
The Department of Environment through adherence to this initiative aims to encourage citizen behavior consistent with sustainable urban development and to give citizens an opportunity to use alternative means of transport to the car.
Likewise, it aims to offer citizens the chance to rediscover the city, its people and its cultural heritage in a relaxed atmosphere.
For the implementation of this initiative, the Department of Environment, will have the support of Councillors for Citizen Participation, Citizen Security, Facility Management Services and the City, Civil Protection and Local Police and media are essential for the proper development of the European initiative "Improving the climate of your city's Town Without My Car!", who were thanked in advance the cooperation shown.
