La Universidad Internacional del Mar, part of the University of Murcia, provide for a second year course on "Educating for the media in a multicultural society" at the headquarters of Totana from 14 to 18 September in the center Sociocultural "Jail."
The course schedule has been presented this morning by the hand of the mayor of Education, Trini Cayuela, Vice Chancellor of University Extension, Guillermo Diaz, the director of the International University of the Sea, Manuel Lopez, and the Mayor of Totana, José Martínez Andreo.
The mayor explained that this is the second time in Totana held a course at the Universidad del Mar, which is expected to have wide acceptance by university students and people interested in the subject.
Cayuela thanked the cooperation of the UMU and the support shown to carry out this initiative, which he described as very interesting, involving large professional journalists and experts from around the country.
For its part, the director of the International University of the Sea, Manuel López, explained that through this course, which will be led by Francisco Javier Ballesta Pagan, is intended to assess the impact of mass media in multicultural society, analyze information and training function of the mass media.
Also, as indicated by the Director, propose methodological strategies to train citizens in the understanding of media content and establish collaborative proposals between Education and the Media.
The course of 30 hours' duration, be honored for 3 elective credits may be carried out by students, graduates and people interested in the topic that are not linked to academic studies at a set price of 95 euros, and must apply registration on the web www.um.es / Unimar .
Also, the Vice Chancellor for University Extension of the UMU, Guillermo Díaz, pointed out that through these courses is about public service of education to each of the municipalities in the region.
Thanks to this course and the support of the City of Totana, according to Diaz, provide academic and professional structure of multicultural life through the media.
On the other hand, the mayor, José Martínez Andreo, Totana has indicated that, within the educational project that the government team was marked at the beginning of the term, has backed the development of the activities of the Universidad Internacional del Mar in the municipality .
Thus, as reported Martínez Andreo, is close to local residents to the University, at the same time enhances the "educational tourism" through courses taught by experts and professionals in the region and beyond it.
