The Mayor of Totana, José Martínez Andreo, and the councilman of Agriculture and Water, John Pagan, inaugurated yesterday the activities of the awareness campaign about the benefits of organic farming, which took place at the Sociocultural "Jail", in attended by producers from all over the region of Guadalentín.
The campaign is framed in a larger project called AEFER (Ecological Agriculture and Rural Employment Source) that engages the Spanish Society of Organic Agriculture (SEAE) in five regions (Galicia, Asturias, Valencia, Murcia and Andalusia) and funded the national territory Foundation for Biodiversity.
At the conference attended by 30 people from the towns of Lorca, Aledo, Alhama and Totana, some of them belonging to the Association Guadanatura (Association of Producers and / or Low Guadalentín green consumers), and farmers interested in the subject, many of they ASAJA associations and UPA.
The day began with a vistit to a farm in Totana.
First we developed a lecture-lecture on the advantages and opportunities of organic agriculture to health, environment and rural development in the hands of Jose Maria Egea, Jr., professor of the Faculty of Biology, University of Murcia , which introduced the project AEFER of SEAE, José María Egea, father, professor of the Faculty of Biology, University of Murcia, who spoke about organic farming in Murcia and its advantages, and Javier Melgares, Specialist in Horticulture, OCA in Murcia, representative of the CARM.
After the presentations, a conference-debate opened with the presentation of the experiences of organic farmers in the region and ended the day with an organic dinner.
