Collection Center and Companion Animal Adoption, CERECO, which keep a cooperation agreement with the town of Totana through the Department of Facility Management Services and the City, collected during 2008 a total of 235 pets who were in a state of neglect in public in the municipality.
Of these 235 animals, a total of 58 have been adopted and sponsored by families.
This figure shows that for every thousand inhabitants of the municipality, have left a 8.89 per cent.
In addition, the Adoption Centre has collected a total of 8 animals that had died in the street and carried out throughout the year 19 emergency department during weekends.
The Department of Facility Management Services and the City has reported that in addition to carrying out the activities of collection of animals, to prevent citizens from abandoning their animals on public roads have also developed several information campaigns and prevention this type of behavior.
Specifically, information sessions were delivered to the students of Primary and Secondary schools in Totana and users of the Occupational Center "José Moya."
Those responsible for the Reception Centre, once you have collected the animal from the street, put a mail ID, are wormed, vaccinated and housed on the premises.
In the case where the animal has been lost aspect, the Welcome Centre tries to locate the owner.
