The Full Council of Totana, in extraordinary session, will present on Thursday January 22 title Adopted Son of the Loyal and Noble Ciudad de Totana the official historian of the town, Mateo García Martínez, by attending in person all qualities and merits that make it worthy of this honor and distinction.
The case was initiated following the presentation in Parliament a motion of the Mayor, dated July 24, 2007.
During the official ceremony to be held on Thursday at seven o'clock in the afternoon, Matthew Garcia will present a scroll, a painting and a book.
Mateo García Martínez was born in 1925 in the nearby town of Alhama de Murcia, but his life has been tied more closely to Totana since his teens, after his family moved to Totana for work, where it took up residence 67 years.
To date, Matthew Garcia has worked in research, study and collection of historical documents relating to the municipality.
His role as a correspondent for newspapers and radio, lecturer, traveler, writer of ancient documents, a collector and have allowed self-assemble a complete newspaper archives of Totana and the region of Guadalentín.
He has also held a wide transmission of information that has allowed the name of Totana project through the media and has published a dozen books on the town, while a photographic archive treasures and collections more about this county.
This long career and the meticulous editing of interesting publications on historical studies, biographies, documents and images related to Totana, has earned him the appointment of Official Chronicler of the Loyal and Noble Ciudad de Totana.
