Councilwoman Crafts, Isabel Maria Sanchez, was present at the ceremony held to appoint new Totana as a full member of the Executive Committee of the Spanish Association of Towns of Ceramics, which was already a founding member.
During this event, which took place in dance during this weekend, and was attended by two dozen municipalities, all integrated in the Association, approved the activities to be undertaken in 2009, and their budgets.
It also agreed to proceed with the creation of a newsletter as well as the creation of a quality brand and appellation of origin for products made by member cities.
Similarly, layered conducting a series of permanent and temporary exhibitions based on the loan of pieces from the cities as well as participating in the European project INTERREG IVC STARS. Participation in the latter project represents an investment of approximately 250,000 euros over 3 years.
The council reported that during the meeting, took the first steps to initiate the appropriate procedures for the creation of a European Centre of Ceramics in Spain, and as he said "our city is emerging as a possible candidate sites."
Thus, as stated, "would outline Totana as regards national-level activities around the pottery and as the representative of our country at the European level."
The mayor noted that "it's forty Spanish municipalities participating in this partnership, created in May 2007 and aims to bring together all the Spanish cities with historical ties to the ceramic and who are willing to increase their productive ceramic heritage or those activities and institutions related to ceramics. "
He also recalled that Totana was once one of the founding members of the association, adding that "until today is the only city in the region of Murcia which is part of this national association."
