The Collective for Social Promotion The Candle of Totana, in collaboration with the Service to Diversity of the Ministry of Education, Science and Research, resumed for the 2008/09 academic year this innovative educational intervention project under the name "I -MEDIA: School Mediation Program, which aims to prevent school violence situations.
This new initiative of intervention and mediation in schools, a pioneer in the Region of Murcia, which last year managed to reduce by 85 percent violent responses of participating students, has been operating since September in kindergarten schools and primary "San José" and "Santa Eulalia" of Totana, in close collaboration and coordination with the management team and teachers in schools.
In this regard, the association notes that "without the good cooperation the success of the project would have fallen."
This project, which already has a year of existence, has managed to provide the school community a resource for the prevention and school violence situations expressed through peer conflict (students) or between two different parts (student-teacher, family, school, etc.).
Also perform a social intervention in schools while children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds acquire habits of study and an improvement in the field of personal relationships and social skills from them.
Different school mediation proceedings focus on five aspects which are covered multiple areas for the mediation efforts: resolution of conflicts arising or already present in the center, an individualized intervention with students who need support for standardized development of their education intervention in a small group, class group work for the educational development of cross-cutting matters, work with families, encouraging their participation in the educational process of their children.
Assessment of previous year
From "The candle" have made an assessment of the previous year are extracted encouraging results that demonstrate the desirability of intervention and mediation activities in schools where there are situations of conflict or difficulty.
