The mayor, Juan José Canovas, has recently met with the Regional Secretary of Red Cross, José Luis Morera Herranz, in order to see first hand the intentions that have this NGO in the city, among which is its claim develop new activities and promote volunteer programs, among others.
The meeting was also attended by the Councillor for Finance, Ana Maria Canovas, who was also chatted about the debt that Totana Town Council has with this entity for the provision of Telecare in this county and three other agreements outstanding collaboration.
The meeting was a first making contact with the institution to inform the representatives of the municipal government's idea nongovernmental institution to settle in this town and work in this direction, in collaboration with other NGOs that have social purposes and similar cooperation and are already involved in Totana.
The NGO intends to resume its actividade again after being suspended a few years ago, opening the headquarters of the Local Assembly and conducting various volunteer programs, which would exclude the medical transport.
Red Cross in the region of Murcia has developed numerous awareness programs, territorial development and revitalization and social intervention through activities and initiatives for employment, training and emergency relief, social assistance elderly or vulnerable or social difficulties , children or immigrants.
It is also conducting volunteer activities and participation, emergency intervention, accident prevention, promotion and health education, gender and co-education, among others.
