Continuing one of the oldest traditions of Totana, which dates back to the early seventeenth century, the residents of the County of La Huerta, went to the chapel on Friday, December 25, to celebrate the birth of Jesus, and Friday January 1 to celebrate the coming New Year.
Secular traditions in the Ermita de La Huerta
This chapel was built to meet the religious needs of the inhabitants of La Huerta.
For this reason, from its origins to the mid-and late 70s of last century XX, the Hermitage was:
A permanent meeting place for neighbors;
A cultural reference for all huertanos living far from the urban core;
And a place to attend Sunday Mass and celebrate the sacraments.
For over 300 years, the residents of La Huerta came to his hermitage to attend the catechesis;
to receive the sacraments (Marriages, First Communions, Confessions, ...);
to attend Sunday Mass;
to celebrate their Patron, ... and even they took place and various neighborhood assemblies convivial meetings at different times of the year.
Currently in the Ermita de La Huerta three fixed holidays that have survived from its origins until today held
The festivity that match the feast of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, on 08 September each year.
The day of the birth of baby Jesus, on December 25.
And on New Year, on January 01.
These three celebrations we must add other occasional meetings as days of cohabitation, silver wedding and gold of some residents of La Huerta, etc.
From the Hermitage of La Huerta wish all readers Totana.com, that in the new year has already started, see fulfilled all its illusions and is 2016 times better than the past year.
Happy New Year!
