Totana Municipal Archives will receive numerous documents of historical interest donated by the heirs of attorney and multifaceted historian Jose Maria Munuera and Abbey (Mazarrón-Totana in January 1838, October 1909), Adopted Son of the City since 2000, whose act of assignment will take place on December 9, at 13:00 pm in the plenary hall.
The event will be attended by the mayor, Juan José Canovas, and members of the municipal corporation, as well as relatives of the former attorney before the courts of Totana, teacher and historian of this town, in this case, one of his great-granddaughters Maria Isabel Bassols Munuera.
In this institutional event are invited all cultural associations Totana, as well as representatives of the educational and cultural, local history lovers and scholars in the same field.
Currently, Munuera and Abbey gives its name to Reading Center located in the urbanization "El Parral", next to IES "Juan de la Cierva" and kindergarten "Pepita Lopez Gandia" respectively.
Biography Munuera and Abbey
José María Munuera and Abbey is one of the great personalities who gave to posterity the city of Totana.
Although born in Mazarrón, he spent most of his life in Totana;
and here he lived with his family, in addition to working as a teacher and solicitor.
It was an outstanding scholar of the history of Totana, its people and traditions.
In fact, his work on the history of Totana and Aledo still not been overcome.
Therefore, we can conclude that his work is in full force.
But he not only showed interest in the past, but also by the social reality around him.
Educated and well positioned person bothered to assist the poorest.
His life and work covering much of the nineteenth century.
In the nineteenth stage Totana introduced major changes and contrasts, but since the end of the century there was a remarkable growth.
In this context the interest of José María Munuera falls to rescue the rich past of the town, which incidentally made him turn himself into a figure of exceptional importance for the history of Totana.
