Totana today held an official ceremony in the Plaza de la Balsa Vieja occasion of the International Day of Disabled Persons, in which students from different schools participated in this town, groups and associations, as well as users of the two municipal centers Care Disability: "José Moya Trilla" and "Princess Letizia" respectively.
The mayor, Juan José Canovas, and the Councillor for Social Welfare, Javier Baños, wanted to see first hand the work done by students from schools "Luis Perez Rueda", "Reina Sofia" and "Tierno Galvan" who participated in the I School Drawing Contest on Disability under the slogan "I am also different."
City officials joined in the ceremony to users of the two centers that made public a message prepared for this commemorative day;
and they handed over the awards to the winners of this contest.
The winners were Daniel Muñoz Martinez (third prize; school "Luis Perez Rueda"), Vilches Carmen Martinez (second prize; school "Reina Sofia") and Miriam Canovas Andreo (first prize; school "Tierno Galvan").
Also, a special mention to Andrea López Otálora (school "Tierno Galvan") was granted.
The awards, whose jury integrated professionals and users of the centers consisted of trophies made in the workshops of the Occupational Center "José Moya Trilla";
and delivery of a detail thanks to the three participating schools was made.
The event concluded with various organized games for school and users of colleges and Disability Assistance.
International Day of Persons with Disabilities Today marks which are over a billion worldwide and for which the United Nations calls inclusión.Con this year's motto "Including matter: access and empowerment People with all kinds of disabilities ", the UN urges governments to make cities" inclusive and accessible to all, to improve the data and statistics on disability and include persons with invisible disabilities in society.
From this perspective, calls for promoting empowerment of people with disabilities, "as this will create real opportunities, enhance their skills and helps them establish their priorities" .But that strengthening or empowerment, it says, means investing in people in jobs, health, nutrition, education and social protection.
The event was also attended by representatives of D'Genes associations, Integra, PADISITO, AFEMTO and users of the Day Centre for People with Alzheimer's.
