The Ministry of Health has started today in the whole region of Murcia the 2015/2016 flu season, so that the two health centers in Totana start the formal dispensation of influenza vaccination, which can prevent up to 45 percent of hospital admissions for influenza in people at risk for this disease after.
According to sources from the Department of Health, the flu often entail significant risks for the chronically ill and the elderly, so the vaccine is administered annually the best way to prevent disease.
The vaccination campaign against influenza, but is aimed at the general population, special emphasis on people with a high risk of complications such as the more than 280,000 older people in the Region, chronic patients and pregnant women.
Likewise, all professionals should get essential services, such as firefighters, police and health professionals, among others.
They must also do all students of Health Sciences who are practicing in a health center in the region.
The Ministry of Health, through the Service for Prevention and Health Protection of the Department of Public Health and Addictions, intended 892.4000 euros for the acquisition of 250,300 vaccines.
Balance of the season 2014/2015
Influenza activity in the region, like the rest of the country, was moderate and was usually associated with circulation of seasonal influenza virus A. The number of registered cases was 28,657, reflecting an increase of 50 percent from the 19,051 cases from the previous season.
Last year, the epidemic threshold was reached in the week from 5 to 11 January 2015, with the highest incidence of the week from 2 to 9 February 2015 with 366 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
Centralized contest, organized by the Ministry, bought 225,000 doses for influenza and pneumococcal 23,000 with a cost of 942,000 euros.
Those with more than 60 years, or the meeting this year, should be vaccinated with the pneumococcal polysaccharide 23-valent vaccine if they have not done before.
And those already in the 2010-2011 season vacunasen should receive a single booster dose this year.
