In late September, 28 and 29, the athlete totanero Jose Saez Garcia added a new challenge to his already lengthy resume in the world of mountain races and especially in the ultra trail, races with a distance much greater than the marathon.
This time Pepe, from which it can be said without any doubt that it is the only athlete totanero and top representative in this discipline that can boast more than a dozen ultras in his legs, the last being the Sulayr, test 98 miles away that took place in part of the long distance footpath that gives name to the race (GR-240), the mountain of the Sun, through the Sierra Nevada National Park.
The test began at 6 am from the Andalusian village of Abrucena, located at 978 meters altitude and located on the northern slope of the Sierra Nevada, ascendiéndose to ports such as La Ragua, to 2041 meters in height or Cerecillos, among others.
Participants had as a company during the first two hours of racing both rain and wind.
These bad weather got better as the hours passed, though the wind made an appearance every time the tour was over 2000 meters.
Gradually, they passed the miles and hours and Pepe Sáez was completing one of the biggest challenges so far in his sporting career, with the end 133 of ultrafondistas they could finish the challenge, including Pepe, who did it in 20 hours and 24 minutes.
After this test there are many hours of training, effort and solitude in the mountains and another achievement for Pepe, who can boast of having great trials ended as the Vuelta al Aneto, the average Penyagolosa marathon, marathon or marathon Xtrem Covadonga Alpine Madrid, among others.
Although hopefully, all this will stay small for the challenge that Pepe is already preparing to face 2014.
Congratulations ultraman.
