Totana City Council will support the demands of COAG-IR to the Ministry of Agriculture and Water and the Ministry itself is restored to agricultural insurance franchise to 20%, as it was before, in the cultivation of table grapes in order to give coverage to farms in the event of damage by the effect of the weather.
The mayor, Isabel Maria Sanchez, and the Councillor for Agriculture, Diego Muñoz, met yesterday at the Town Hall with representatives of the Union of Farmers and Ranchers of Lower Guadalentin to understand and analyze the claims that this organization will promote, after its last meeting Totana held earlier this week.
Apparently, the amount of damage that includes "Agroseguro" for the payment of compensation to the insured for damages caused by torrential rain and rot in table grapes is fixed exclusively when losses exceed 50% of the hired farm and not 20% as it was before.
Farmers want to restore the old tool for agricultural risk management, noting the 20% absolute excess applied in previous campaigns.
The table grape producers advocate the establishment of a mechanism to address franchise, with guarantees, the high costs of policy and take cover compensation for the said crop damage due to adverse weather conditions.
With the new formula provided "Agroseguro" indemnify the farmer only from a crop loss of more than half the damage given an expert opinion.
Farmers moved their interest that the insurance grapes, which have paid very high prices now cover losses rains in late August and early September, and compensate them for damages in the same conditions as in previous campaigns.
The mayor has pledged to raise an urgent motion to the next regular full this September in order to set a specific institutional arrangement to support table grape producers in the municipality in such claims of agricultural risk management.
In addition, the councilor recalled that the City has always had its doors open to all agricultural organizations as well as syndicated or not producers, and advocated that the industry is united on all issues that arise.
