The totanero Carlos Tudela Corbalán has brilliantly proclaimed Regional Chess Champion, after defeating the eighth and final day on Saturday June 5, at the restaurant Pericón of Abarán, with the participation of 86 chess players from throughout our region.
The last round was very exciting options as six players were crowned regional champions mathematically.
The ranking was led by the best playoff player also totanero Juan Antonio Ponce Valero with 6 points, the same as Carlos Tudela (Totana) and Felipe Alcaraz Martínez (Cartagena).
They were followed with 5.5 points Murcia Angel Paredes (Cabezo de Torres), Ivan Lucas Vega (ABARE) and Daniel Alarcon Olmos (Monteagudo).
The clashes in the eighth and final round were Felipe Alcaraz, Juan Antonio Ponce, Carlos Tudela Ivan Lucas and Daniel Alarcon Angel Murcia.
After three hours of play nothing was decided as Juan Antonio Ponce, who won nearly claimed the top spot in its attempt to unbalance an equal position was getting lower.
Carlos Tudela was playing a complex game in which both he and Ivan Lucas had chances to win and third showdown, the young Daniel Alarcón was surprising, as was clear advantage in his match with Angel Murcia player who until then had been doing a great tournament.

Carlos Tudela path in the Championship has been impeccable, showing why was the number one ranking first and the only participant with the title of Master FIDE (World Chess Federation), it has managed six wins and two draws.
After this triumph in Abarán, Carlos Tudela joins the select group of the Individual Regional Champions, which also include chess Totana Juan Miguel Ibarra Jerez who got into the Regional Championship held in Cartagena in 2008 and his brother Joseph Carlos Ibarra Jerez, in the championship which was held in 2003 in Totana.
He has also participated in the Championship the young chess totanero Pedro Romero Moya, 14, whose victory in the final round got to add 3.5 points in the championship.
A good performance which is attached to fifth place in the Regional Championship won by Age in the category of under 16 held in Lorca last March.
The awards ceremony and closing ceremony was presided over by Jesus Molina Izquierdo, Mayor-elect Abarán, Antonio Gallego Martínez, President of the Chess Federation of the Region of Murcia and José Gómez López, President of Chess Club Abarán.
Next, the organization handed a gift-souvenir Championship to all participants.
Carlos Tudela will represent our region in the next Spain Individual Championship to be held in Linares (Jaén) from 22 to 30 October.
