A total of 46 people have completed their training in literacy and painting workshops, actions that have served to restore the building where they live.
The Collective for Social Promotion "The Candle", through funding from the Instituto Murciano Social Action (IMAS) and in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare of the City of Totana has conducted these workshops developed under Project "Gelem-Gelem: Community activities in Totana social housing."
The objectives of this project were to enable a meeting place where participants offer an alternative educational and training attractive and different from traditional and formal education, as well as promoting mutual respect among their neighbors and to the environment in which they live.
Thus been able to improve the physical conditions of sanitation of their dwellings and common areas as well as learning a trade through the paint shop, have also been able to improve their basic skills of literacy, numeracy and communication through literacy workshop.
The first of the workshops, "Workshop on Literacy" was launched on February 2 and ended on April 8 and was attended by 36 people.
This workshop had a total duration of 60 hours and there were two groups.
The second workshop held was "Paint Shop", with a total duration of 52 hours between 4 and 19 April, attended by a total of 10 people.
This workshop was held in the building of social housing located in C / Argentina and served to paint all the areas of the building.
The completion of this activity has been possible thanks to the direct collaboration of the Department of Social Welfare of the City of Totana, who provided all the materials needed for development.
Specifically, the councilman of Social Binestar, Juan Carrion, has been commissioned to deliver the diplomas, which highlighted his "interest in carrying out such actions in addition to improving living conditions encourages the establishment of neighborly relations and development neighborhood shared responsibilities.
In addition, Carrion encouraged all pupils to follow a training schedule that will better position rather than face to enter the labor market. "
The "Gelem-Gelem 2010/11" will end with the last scheduled training activity, a "Workshop on Electricity," which will begin next week with a duration of 52 hours and with the participation of 10 persons, through which restored part of the electrical system of social housing building C / Argentina.
