The Mayor of Totana, José Martínez Andreo, Councilmembers Citizen Participation, Juan Carrion Tudela, and Youth, Josefa María Sánchez, and the project coordinator, "Holidays in Peace" have made a corporate reception to welcome the seven children Saharawi from the camps of Tindouf, where they are received from July 1 for six families in the municipality.
This solidarity action is part of the "Holidays in peace", which has taken place in the municipality for more than ten years through the collaboration of the Council of Totana, is designed for families who want to share their lives with children who were born in Sahara from disadvantaged backgrounds by welcoming during the summer months at home.
With the implementation of this project, "Holidays in peace", as explained Carrion Tudela is to alienate the children from the harsh living conditions in refugee camps during the summer, providing the opportunity to enjoy and live for two months in an environment different from the constant tension resulting from the war situation and shelter to which they are subjected, provide for your stay to overcome shortcomings of health and nutrition and enhance their knowledge of Spanish, among other things.
The coordinator of this project has appreciated the efforts made by the City Council year after year is supporting this initiative and the council appealed to the solidarity and awareness regarding the problems of these children to facilitate their reception.
