The mayor of Totana, Andrés García, has recently met members of the Professional Association of Social Educators of the Region of Murcia to seek ways of institutional collaboration and address the socio-educational situation in this municipality.
The meeting was attended by the vice president of the professional school, Antonio Megal, and the treasurer, Carmen Lozano, who together with Councilor Gertrudis Ruiz, discussed coordination channels between the two organizations and analyzed the Law of Regularization of Social Education, among other matters.
The school officials wanted to thank the municipal public office for the disposition of the Totanera Municipal Corporation when a few months ago they agreed to support the regulation of Social Education, conceived as a pedagogical profession that applies social and educational action practices in various contexts.
This advocates a professional exercise that addresses socio-educational issues such as addictions, minors, community development, functional diversity, adults, family counseling, dependency, gender equality and violence, social inclusion, mediation, mental health, among others.
The General Council of Official Colleges of Educators and Social Educators (CGCEES) and the Professional Associations of Educators and Social Educators at national level began the campaign "For a Law of Social Education" at the end of last year.
These professional groups defend that a regulated profession is a guarantee of professionalism, in this case, in the accompaniment, treatment and attention to people and will allow us to publicize social education as a transformative profession of contexts and people.
