The mayor of Totana, Andrés García, has raised a motion to the March plenary session in which the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports is urged to be taken into consideration and recognized in the next convocation of decorations of the Civil Order of Alfonso X El Sabio to the Official Chronicler of the City of Totana, Professor Juan Cánovas Mulero, in one of its grades or categories, in recognition of his permanent research work and invaluable historical contribution coinciding with the Centennial of the City of Totana that takes place during this 2018.
The motion is for the objector to request the granting of this recognition, granted by this ministerial department, considering the career and altruistic service of the historian Juan Cánovas Mulero, encouraged this year on the occasion of said historic and cultural anniversary in this municipality.
The initiative of the first mayor comes to respond, in the same way, to the popular citizen initiative, backed by a collection of neighborhood signatures and an entry record in the City of Totana (No. 2406 of 3/14/2108), which suggests the content of the proposal included in this motion.
According to the proposal, Totana is immersed this year in the commemorative acts of the First Centenary of the Concession of the Title of City that SM Alfonso XIII granted in 1918 to this town;
endorsed, among other issues, by its economic growth and its constant adherence to the monarchy.
The activities are promoted by the Department of Culture of the City of Totana and the invaluable collaboration and involvement of an organizing technical committee, whose initiative aims to commemorate this event, formed by municipal workers from various departments, historians, musicians, social and cultural groups, and other specialists.

Professor Cánovas Mulero was born in Totana on February 14, 1958;
He studied the Baccalaureate at the Juan de la Cierva Institute (Totana) and studied at the University School of Basic Education Teaching of Murcia, obtaining the title of Professor of EGB.
Specialty.
Human Sciences, in 1980. Subsequently, he studied at the University of Murcia, obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy and Literature (Geography and History) in 1991.
Currently, he works as a professor of Secondary Education and Baccalaureate at the IES Juan de la Cierva de Totana.
Over the last few years he has carried out a historical research aimed at investigating the reality of his hometown, in order to bring to citizens the trajectory of an entity that, like Totana, consolidates as a population nucleus based on Peace from Granada;
but that throughout the Late Middle Ages it had played a singular role, as a suburb of Aledo, in the development of agricultural holdings, encouraged by its climatology and the fertility of its lands;
At the same time, collecting the population settlement that testify the archaeological remains that from the Prehistory testify the settlement of the area.
This task has resulted not only in the publication of different works, but also in the participation, coordination and direction of various studies, as well as collaboration and involvement in activities related to it.

and in 2014 he was named Official Cronista of the City of Totana.
