Municipal authorities of Totana participated today in the demonstration held in Madrid to demand water for the Spanish Levante and concrete measures to the central administration for the lack of water resources as a result of the drought, accompanying farmers and irrigators who displaced the capital of Spain in eight buses, six of them chartered by the Community of Irrigators.
After the banner "El Levante, without water, desert and unemployment", thousands of irrigators and farmers, summoned by the Círculo del Agua, have taken Madrid to ask the Government for water and definitive solutions to the structural deficit of the Segura basin, and which stands at 400 cubic hectometres per year.
Among the attendees were Mayor Andrés García, First Deputy Mayor Juan José Cánovas and Town Planning Councilor Carlos Ballester, among other local and regional public officials.
