The mayor of Totana, Andrés García Cánovas, has dictated a municipal side urging the whole of the citizens of this municipality to participate and mobilize tomorrow, March 7, for the lack of water resources in the face of drought;
and invites the concentration and stoppage of a duration of five minutes that will take place in the Plaza de la Constitución (12:00 hours) for all those neighbors who can not attend the Madrid demonstration.
The convocation of the morning demonstration (free buses depart at 4:45 am from the "La Báscula" urbanization) has been carried out by the Water Circle, the Central Union of Irrigators in the provinces of Alicante, Almeria and Murcia, and the Community of Irrigators of Totana, given the serious situation of lack of water resources due to the drought and the perspectives that exist in the short and medium term, with the loss of tree and horticultural plantations.
This situation would entail social, economic and environmental consequences that are very harmful for the Totanera society and the whole of the Region of Murcia;
and given the absence of effective measures and agreements that should have been adopted by the Administration.
The Community of Irrigators of Totana and last week held an informative assembly, together with representatives of all the social and business of Totana and members of different political parties, in order to specify measures to support the participation and mobilization of society civil of our municipality.
The first mayor has convened a Board of Spokespersons, as a matter of urgency, to specify the content of the side in a consensual manner, in support of the mobilization measures agreed last week by the Community of Irrigators of Totana.
On the side, the unanimous support and the show of institutional solidarity of the City of Totana to the planned mobilizations, as well as the set of measures promoted by the Community of Irrigators for this just cause;
urging the participation and mobilization of the whole of the totanera civil society.
Stop five minutes, at the gates of City Hall
In addition, to call all citizens to participate in the concentration in the Plaza de la Constitución, at the gates of the City, at 12:00 hours, consisting of a symbolic stoppage of five minutes and reading a manifesto, for all those people who are unable to move to the Madrid demonstration in order to support these claims;
the business and commercial fabric of Totana is also invited to proceed to the temporary closure adding to this concentration in the Plaza de la Constitución of our city.
Similarly, it is proposed and invites the entire educational community of Totana, to make a five-minute stop in the playgrounds of schools, coinciding with this time slot, in support of the measures promoted by these entities and as a signal of awareness, in order to transfer to future generations the importance of this resource as a fundamental basic right and pillar for the social and economic development of our environment.
