The deputy speaker of the Socialist Parliamentary Group Alfonso Martínez Baños and the mayor of Totana Andrés García Cánovas have appealed to the sensitivity of the Ministry of Education to reverse the generic five million that is foreseen in the regional budgets for 2018 and build next summer the 4th class in the IES Prado Mayor de Totana, "because the situation in which the center is located can not wait for one more course".
This classroom would have a staff of 10 classrooms, laboratories, offices, warehouses and workshops spread over two floors and semi-basement.
The socialist deputy spokesman recalled that the IES Prado Mayor de Totana was born on the basis of what were the facilities of the former Labor Baccalaureate and later Vocational Training Institute.
"Its dependencies have been growing to meet the educational demand of the municipality in an unplanned way, using old classrooms and workshops that do not meet the conditions for teaching."
Martínez Baños stressed that "only the professionalism and the great effort of the teachers and staff working at the center allow us to provide quality education, despite the precariousness of the facilities."
Both the socialist parliamentarian and the mayor of Totana also agree on the need to proceed with the demolition of the current electricity workshops.
"They are located on the original premises, have asbestos roofs and do not meet the minimum isolation conditions, although in the summer of 2014 work was done to improve these conditions, but they have not solved the problem," they complain.
Martínez Baños and Andrés García indicated that these workshops were going to be demolished, for which the Ministry of Education hired and drafted a project to build what would be the 4th classroom in the current parking location.
"It has been 6 years and the execution of this work has not yet been contracted by the Ministry of Education, the problem of the center having been aggravated by the lack of space to provide a quality education, in addition to the serious problem represented by the lack of an isolation in the electricity workshops, with materials that comply with current regulations and does not pose a threat to the health of the educational community.
The Commission of Education and Culture of the Regional Assembly has debated this initiative of the Socialist Parliamentary Group and has been approved with the votes of PSOE, Podemos and Ciudadanos.
The Popular Party abstained.
Therefore, Alfonso Martínez Baños and Andrés Cánovas ask the Ministry to give priority to this work and not delay it beyond next summer.
