The Minister of Tourism and Culture, Javier Celdrán, visited some ago the Juan de Uzeta de Totana, whose rehabilitation the regional government will allocate a total of 59,490 euros, and whose work is currently pending bid by the City Council .
The person in charge of the Murcian Executive wanted to know first hand the state of deterioration of this emblematic architectural infrastructure, taking advantage of his last visit to the municipality of Totana, coinciding with the inauguration of the Argaric House of the Argaric archaeological site of La Bastida.
During the visit the counselor was accompanied by the first deputy mayor, Juan José Cánovas, and the councilor for Tourism, Inmaculada Blázquez, as well as other members of the municipal Corporation and the architect in charge of drafting the project, Francisco Guerao, who explained the actions that are going to be undertaken in this space.
The Council of Government approved in December the granting of this aid, because the monument showed signs of aesthetic degradation and problems of functioning of the water flows, which made necessary a deep conservation action to avoid the loss of original elements and return to the set an image that allows the original morphological and chromatic reading.
The fountain was built in the eighteenth century, south of the Plaza de la Constitución, and is part of an urban group of great artistic value in which is the Church of Santiago Apóstol, declared a Site of Cultural Interest, to the west;
the Consistorial House, to the north;
and the House of Contributions and the Plaza de la Balsa Vieja, to the east.
The rehabilitation of the source of Totana, said Javier Celdrán, "adds to the many actions that Culture is doing in terms of protection, promotion and dissemination of the assets that make up our rich historical heritage, for which we take special care to ensure that help to turn the Region of Murcia into an example of heritage recovery and quality cultural tourism ".
