Last Thursday, February 8, the round table entitled "Tradition and Future of Pottery in Totana" was held in the "Gregorio Cebrián" exhibition hall, with the participation of the historian José Antonio Sánchez Pravia and several potters of this location.
The historian José Antonio Sánchez Pravia was winner, in March 2005, of the VI Historical Research Prize "Alporchón" with the work entitled "The enchanted mud, tradition in Totana (XVI-XX centuries)", so it is one of the most significant scholars in the local area in this matter.
This informative activity was framed within the program of cultural activities promoted within the celebration this year of the Centenary of the award of Title of City to Totana (1918-2018).
The mayor, Andrés García, numerous members of the municipal Corporation and the official chronicler of the city and historian, Juan Cánovas Mulero, among others, gathered in this initiative.
In this, despite the passage of time, the main challenges that the pottery sector continues to face, such as generational change and existing marketing problems, were addressed.
In addition, other issues were addressed, such as the application of new technologies and commercial marketing, the challenges of this professional sector in the face of global globalization, how changes in the habits of consumers and users affect it;
and that they are some of the factors that are driving the change in business societies to adapt to the new times, and that are irreversibly affecting this traditional professional sector.
This program of activities, started several weeks ago, commemorates a significant historical event as it was to move from town to town, and aims to raise awareness and create concern so that this moment serves to set our sights on our past and future.
The initiative has been carried out by the totanero Consistory of the hand of a technical commission organized to commemorate this event, formed by municipal workers of various departments, historians, musicians, social and cultural groups, and other specialists.
