The City Council of Totana and the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) agreed to renew the collaboration agreement on the Argaric Field of La Bastida, after the meeting held last week between the mayor, Andrés García, and the councilor of Archaeological Sites, Juan José Cánovas, with the professor of Prehistory of the UAB, Rafael Micó, to study the draft of the agreement and in which other matters of interest were discussed.
In the meeting, the points of the agreement of pending collaboration were finalized, giving the approval, with the contributions of the UAB to the imminent signature by both institutions.
In this case, the Consistory is in charge of the security expenses of the archaeological pieces deposited in the municipal facilities and the maintenance logistics of the deposit itself.
The councilman Juan José Cánovas has underlined the permanent collaboration maintained by his department with the UAB, giving as an example, the recent construction of a recreation of the Argaric House, which has been executed by the teaching institution, under a grant of 30,000 euros granted by the General Directorate of Cultural Property and managed by the City of Totana.
He also highlighted the investment of 60,000 euros contributed by the Autonomous Community for emergency works on the wall of the Argaric settlement, whose actions are being finalized these days.
The mayor of Archaeological Sites has recalled that the City of Totana in 2017 has exceeded 100,000 euros in spending on logistics issues in the field;
and has indicated that the only condition is that this is the heritage of the people of Totana and that all questions that are made must be within the framework of the Law.
Councilman Canovas said that "it would be very interesting and urgent for the Autonomous Community to support directly with the UAB the pending research work in the site, and the City continued with logistical support and contributions based on their economic possibilities."
At the beginning of the year, the Department of Archaeological Sites will present an Action Plan that will go through the exhibition of the pieces of the Bastida in a Museum, installed in the Old Technological Center of Crafts, making compatible with other activities and exhibitions so that the visitors of La Bastida, first pass through the center of Totana, visit places of interest and in the afternoon, visit the site where these months are organized "Teatralized Visits" organized by the company "Connection Culture", with the collaboration of the Department of Tourism.

Archaeological sites maintenance team
The mayor has announced that in the first quarter of 2018, a subsidy will be requested within the framework of the Employment Promotion programs to hire a maintenance team for Archaeological Sites, coordinated by a technician.
In addition, he has informed that he will propose, in the medium term, I will propose the creation of the Municipal Archaeologist's square due to the importance and weight that this sector has in the economy, culture and tourist projection of Totana.
