The schools of the municipality of Totana are going to join the project "Educa en Eco" to promote the promotion of selective collection of packaging waste and paper-board and encourage environmental awareness of educational communities in the schools themselves.
The councilors of Environmental Education, Isabel María Molino, and Education, Eulalia Moreno, gave an account of this initiative that will be carried out through the implementation of blue and yellow containers, in collaboration with Ecoembalajes España, SL (Ecoembes).
Among the objectives of the campaign are to increase the recycling of waste in the municipality and reduce its destination to landfill;
as well as promoting the selective collection of packaging waste and paper-cardboard in the participating schools.
This project also aims to increase the involvement of school communities and staff of municipal agencies in the recycling of waste.
To this end, an information, education and environmental awareness campaign on the proper management of municipal waste and its social, economic and environmental benefits will be promoted.
In this case, the agents involved in this environmental awareness program are, at the local level, the City of Totana, through the councils of Environment, RSU and Environmental Education;
and the Autonomous Community itself, with the collaboration of the Ministries of Environment and Education, which coordinates the project at the regional level;
with the inestimable collaboration of Ecoembes that finances the containers of light packaging and paper-cardboard.
The actions included in the project include several phases, which will begin in January next year, with the holding of information sessions (through the environmental company contracted by Ecoembes) in public schools aimed at teaching staff (teachers) and non-teaching staff (janitors, dining and cleaning services, among others);
and the installation of waste containers for light packaging and paper-cardboard in schools.
Then, between January and April of 2018, the second phase will be developed, in which the faculty will carry out activities with the students in order to encourage their involvement in the project.
During this time, the environmental consulting company will also carry out activities with the students and with the AMPAS of the centers involved.
Before finalizing the course, in June, the last phase will be carried out by means of the monitoring and evaluation of the project in the different scholastic centers and municipal dependencies.
