The Councilor for Animal Protection, Agustín Gonzalo Martínez, has raised a motion for debate at the regular plenary session in December, in which he proposes to initiate the appropriate procedures for the preparation of an ordinance that regulates the authorization and creation of cemeteries for animals of company in the municipality of Totana.
This initiative would always be developed in accordance with the standards established for this purpose in terms of animal protection and health, public health and environmental protection, as well as any other applicable legislation.
According to the motion, in Spain there are around 20 million pets that are a member of the family, and in Totana we are not unaware of the ratios and proportionality of the national average in terms of pet ownership.
The Law 6/2017, of November 8, of Protection and Defense of the Animals of Company of the Region of Murcia, published in the BORM of November 23, comes to configure the principles and rights that must be guaranteed to the animals more close and dear ones that accompany and coexist with the human being in their environment.
To this end, Public Administrations with competences in matters of animal protection and health and protection of the health of the people who live with them must develop their respective functions and actions, always seeking the maximum welfare of the animal and safety and security. health of people.
This norm, in its chapter VIII on coordination and collaboration between Public Administrations, comes to fix in its article 32, paragraph 1, that "it corresponds to the city councils or, failing that, to the supramunicipal entities in accordance with the competences attributed by the legislation of local regime, the authorization of cemeteries for pets.
