The mayor, Andrés García, and the Councilor for Education, Eulalia Moreno, have recently met with the general director of Centers of the Ministry of Education, Remedios Lajara, to address some issues in education that affect the schools in this municipality.
Among these stood out the demands of the educational community of the IES "Prado Mayor".
For this, an institutional delegation between those who were the councilor and the edile of Education, and the councilors of the Popular Group, Isabel María Sánchez and María José Bedia, accompanied the representatives of the AMPA of the institute in a meeting with the general director of Centers to address their demands.
All the parties made a common front to start specific commitments to the Ministry that give a tangible response to the urgent need to build the fourth classroom of this teaching center, a pressing demand that has the educational community of the IES for several years.
This situation has been causing many discomforts to teachers and students of the institute during the present course.
Apparently, and after this meeting, it was agreed that in 2018 two new sports courts will be built in the IES "Prado Mayor" and will begin the administrative procedures of recruitment to build the demanded fourth classroom, as explained by the Councilor Eulalia Moreno.
Precisely, the Plenary of Totana approved, in its ordinary session of October, unanimously, to demand from the Ministry of Education the execution of the project already prepared and budgeted for this new classroom;
which was already requested and approved unanimously in the plenary session of February 2016.
In addition, it was decided that the City Council would seek formulas, between the different educational centers and social centers of Totana, to cover the needs of the center in what refers to the lack of tables and chairs that the students of the IES have had, indicates the edil of Education.
The IES "Prado Mayor" has gone from having 726 students in the 2014/2015 course to 985 students in the course that has just started, without any investment having been made to compensate for the increase in students.
The institute presents an unfortunate situation derived, in addition, from the insufficiency of classrooms and furniture, since there are around 50 tables and chairs.
Other commitments for Totana schools
Subsequently, both the mayor and the councilor of Education held a second meeting with the general director of centers to deal with other demands that directly affect the educational community of Totana.
In this regard, commitments were taken to implement during the next school year the projects of isolation of the roof and air conditioning of the schools "Santiago" and "Santa Eulalia", respectively;
as well as the modernization of the electricity systems of the "Tierno Galván" and Lébor schools.
The council notes that "some issues have been pending," but assesses "very positively" the attitude of active listening of the General Directorate of Centers to the requests of the municipal government "listening to the centers and municipalities, in this case."
