The Commonwealth of Sierra Espuña and all other entities involved in the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism (CETS), including the City of Totana, are celebrating, so from 11 to 19 November, the so-called "Week" has been organized Territorio Sierra Espuña ", with a wide range of activities to celebrate the renewal of the Charter, in force since 2012 but which is renewed every five years.
According to sources from the Tourism Office of Totana, the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism promotes a series of local strategies to promote tourism in the area that respects the natural and cultural heritage of this territory.
The Sierra Espuña Regional Park has renewed the accreditation of the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism (CETS), the European-level certificate granted by the EUROPARC Federation to protected natural areas that have demonstrated their practical commitment to sustainable tourism, according to sources of the regional government in a statement.
In addition, last June, the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment delivered the renewal certificates of the CETS to 11 tourist companies in the area, currently a total of 18 establishments in the area that have this brand of quality.
The Regional Park of Sierra Espuña and its surroundings is accredited with the CETS as a Protected Natural Area since 2012, and is currently the only destination in the Region that owns it, which guarantees the visitor the importance of environmental behavior adequate and the enjoyment of a quality experience in a privileged environment.
This recognition has been possible thanks to the elaboration and execution of a tourism strategy and an action plan adapted to the particularities of the territory, with the aim of improving the environmental, social and economic viability of tourism.
Specifically, for the Sierra Espuña Park, a new Strategy and Action Plan was drawn up in 2016, through a process that participates in the territory, comprising different actions until 2021.
After receiving this summer the visit of the verifier of the CETS for the corresponding evaluation of the park, it was unanimously agreed to once again grant the Charter certificate to the Regional Park of Sierra Espuñay and its surroundings for the next five years.
The maintenance of this accreditation has been possible thanks to the joint work of the Tourism Institute of the Region of Murcia (ITREM), the Tourist Association of Sierra Espuña, Integral, Espuña Tourist Association, Murcia Activa Association and Meles Conservation Association.
