The Colectivo "El Candil" has been developing reinforcement activities and educational leisure, every afternoon, where children from 6 to 12 years old participate.
Specifically, every afternoon from Monday to Thursday, between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., 2 educational classrooms are opened, which host 5 different groups of children, with the participation of 65 children and 45 families.
These classrooms are located in public housing in the neighborhood "el parral" and in calle argentina, both in the municipality of Totana.
These classrooms develop activities focused on learning through leisure, using techniques and tools suitable for this purpose.
In addition to homework, children perform games and workshops that stimulate their knowledge.
In addition, activities related to Halloween have recently been held, in order to meet and share traditions and festivities from other countries.
During the past week, the kids participated in specific workshops for decorating the classrooms, designing and making costumes, as well as celebrating a party on the occasion of this day.
These activities are part of the Project of Socio-educational Intervention with Families and Minors in Social Disadvantaged Situation, subsidized by the Ministry of Family and Equal Opportunities of the CARM and is developed in collaboration with the City Council of Totana and the Educational Centers of this municipality .
The form of access is through the schools and Social Services of the municipality, since they are the ones who detect the educational and family needs of the participants, deriving them to the project.
In addition, work is carried out in coordination with the tutors and teachers of the educational centers attended by the children, with which improvements are being obtained in the academic results of the children who attend the educational reinforcement classrooms.
This project, which has been carried out in Totana since October 2014, arises in response to the needs detected by various families by the El Candil Collective and the demands received from various institutions.
Its main objective is the adequate care of minors and provide coverage of vital needs for optimal development, as well as support for the families served.
