The actions consisted in the repair of the damages that occurred in the floods of December 2016
The Confederación Hidrográfica del Segura, a body under the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment, has completed the emergency works at the Paretón de Totana dam, a fundamental infrastructure to prevent flooding in the area of Vega Media and La Vega Baja, as the waters of the Guadalentín River drift towards the Las Moreras rambla.
The works have corrected the damage caused by the December 2016 floods, according to a report from the CHS.
The works have focused on repairing the lining cloths of the destroyed, broken or cracked ATMs;
the caverns and gullies in the uncovered area of the canal;
the subsidence in some local area of the lateral motes;
the protection by embankment of slopes;
the reinforcement of the side concrete walls of the canal;
the replacement of damaged clapetas and the demolition and reconstruction of lateral concrete and masonry downspouts for the protection of runoff water slopes.
The evacuation of the avenue in December 2016 worked very well but there was damage to the infrastructure that needed to be fixed.
The storms that hit the southeast of Spain in December 2016, due to their virulence, were classified as historical by the Spanish Meteorological Agency (AEMET) and caused considerable damage in channels and infrastructure of the Public Hydraulic Domain.
The emergency works have focused on the restoration of the hydraulic capacity of the Segura river, repairs to the infrastructure of the Tajo-Segura transfer, as well as actions to refurbish the floating systems at the Segura estuary.
