The Local Government Board has recently approved the proposal of the Councilor for Culture, Eulalia Moreno, to sign the collaboration agreement with the Siglo XXI Public Education Association in order to implement the program "EXILECOM" in the municipal library "Mateo García" , which is a volunteer initiative of shared reading for children with reading delay.
The City Council appoints the librarian, Isabel Román Soler, as coordinator of the node "EXILECOM" to create in the municipal library "Mateo García", where the project will be implemented immediately.
This pioneering project is aimed at older people who want to reinforce reading to 3rd and 4th grade primary schoolchildren.
Registration of people interested in collaborating with students can be held in the municipal library "Mateo Garcia", Monday to Friday, from 9:30 to 2:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The intention is that these adults reading lovers can help children with difficulties or delay reading for an hour a week, to achieve an adequate reading comprehension and achieve the necessary school success.
This initiative has already been carried out last year in 23 educational centers in the Region of Murcia, whose students have a reading deficit of 25% in the case of students of Primary Education above the national average, and which had the inestimable collaboration of students of the University of Murcia.
This year this initiative wants to extrapolate to other municipalities with the help of adult volunteers.
The project will be coordinated by the municipal library and the students will be referred by the teachers of the different schools of the municipality of Totana in order to try to accelerate the reader learning of the beneficiaries, who for different causes in their family and social environment , as a sociocultural source, suffer from reading backwardness and do not reach the necessary reading levels.
The program will allow to authorize a scholar throughout the school year, apply the methodology of the project, establish a relationship with the child that generates confidence, create high expectations about his success reader and adapt at all times to interests and progress of this.
Basically, the objective of the "EXILECOM" project is to avoid that this student body will swell the ranks of abandonment and subsequent school failure.
Volunteering will be formed by those people who want to contribute to improve the reading deficit of these children throughout the school year through their authorization to help eliminate educational inequalities that make it difficult to acquire an adequate level of reading comprehension.
At the end of the course there will be a joint meeting of the coordinators, the volunteers who participated, the tutors and tutors of the students and their families to evaluate the effectiveness in the development of the program and the achievements.
