The sports tests, collected in the Regional Circuit of Mountain Races, are organized by the EVA-13
The Air Surveillance Squadron number 13 (EVA-13), based in the Morrón of Sierra Espuña, with the close collaboration of the Departments of Sports of Totana and Alhama de Murcia and the Federation of Athletics of the Region of Murcia (FAMU ), organized this Sunday, October 22, the III Trail DRAGONChallenge 2017 "Memorial Subteniente Juan Carlos Pérez Calleja".
This trail running sporting event has a beneficial purpose because the income of the more than 200 runners who will meet in both races will be destined to the social associations associations AELIP, D'Genes and the Foundation Francisco Munuera Martínez.
The mayor of Totana, Andrés García, accompanied by the Councilor of Deportes totanera, Isabel María Molino, the EVA-13 commander, Juan Carlos Giz, and the captain of the same detachment and technical coordinator of the test, Emiliano Gil, presented this test that will have its exit, for both races, at 8:30 hours of the Pavilion of Sports "Manolo Ibáñez."
The test, which has a linear character and is the last scoring of the autonomic circuit, contemplate a mixed urban and mountain circuit with two distances: of 17 (MiniDRAGON) and 32 kilometers (DRAGON), with a difference of 700 and 1,500 meters, respectively.
The goal of the MiniDRAGON will be located about 600 meters from the Interpretation Center "Ricardo Codorníu", in the denominated Camp of Explorers;
while that of the DRAGON will be located in the EVA-13 facilities, in the Morro de Espuña, the second highest point in the regional geography of Murcia.
In addition to the sporting events, other complementary activities will be held to bring the Armed Forces closer to society, such as an acrobatic launch at 10:30 am of the Airborne Accident Parachute Patrol (PAPEA) in Totana exhibition center.
Similarly, during the sports event, family and companions will be able to enjoy "Dragonex", in the fairgrounds, a fair with exhibitions of material and dynamic exhibitions of military units, with stands where sponsors and collaborators will offer their products, and in which the assistants will know better the components of our Armed Forces, as well as their daily work and missions.
The organization plans to deliver more than 80 trophies to the participants, made by users of the "José Moyá Trilla" Day Center in Totana.
With the celebration of this test, its promoters try to combine the values ​​of sport and effort, to bring the Armed Forces to the citizenship and to continue maintaining the charitable character of the competition;
at the same time as honoring the second lieutenant Perez Calleja died in act of service in 2013.
The second lieutenant was born in Vitoria and developed most of his military career at the General Air Academy in San Javier, although his passion for the mountain led him to request a destination in the EVA-13, located in the natural park of Sierra Espuña;
and at 56, this was his last destination.
On the morning of 11 October 2013, while performing a topographical survey for an exercise to be held a few weeks later, the deputy lieutenant was killed in an accident.
