On October 12, 1492, the expedition led by Christopher Columbus reached Guananí Island, in the archipelago of the Bahamas.
The idea of making the National Party of Spain coincide with this date was the writer Ramiro de Maetzu, who in an article called "La Hispanidad" on December 15, 1931, stated: "On October 12, ill-titled Día de the Race, shall henceforth be the Day of Hispanity. "
The Hispanidad.
On October 12 we celebrate the anniversary of the Discovery of America and the feast of Our Lady of Pilar, patroness of Spain and the Civil Guard.
On the other side of the Atlantic, however, the Pilar is little known, but they celebrate the day America was discovered (which it did not find).
The Yankees know it as Columbus Day, the Argentines as Day of the Race.
The first time that Hispanidad Day was celebrated was in 1935, legally the party was not regulated until 1958. And as such was held until 1987, which is established on October 12 with new denomination: "National Fiesta of Spain," in contrast to the Royal Decree 3217/1981 in which yes was denominated to 12 of October like "National Day of Spain and Day of the Hispanidad". However, Law 18/1987 eliminates the celebration character of the Hispanidad and the restricts exclusively to the sphere of Spain because it says "symbolizes the historic ephemeris in which Spain, on the verge of concluding a process of construction of the State - not the nation - from our cultural and political plurality, and the integration of the Kingdoms of Spain in the same Monarchy, begins a period of linguistic and cultural projection beyond the limits of Europe ".
Spain becomes an empire even before consolidating its National State.
On October 12, it is also the feast of the Virgin of Pilar, patroness of the Civil Guard, since King Alfonso XIII declared it on February 8, 1913. The Civil Guard is undoubtedly an example for all Spanish people.
Honor and discipline is your motto.
It is one of the most respected, loved and admired institutions, as reflected in the surveys conducted by the NC Report consultants on the valuation of our Safety Bodies.
The Civil Guard is today essential for the safety of all Spaniards and fundamentally, in the defense of our nation and in enforcing the laws.
These days we are seeing it clearly.
Few people know that the Civil Guard, with more lights than shadows, was a creation of liberalism, that wanted the security of the State to reach everywhere, not only to the cities.
During the Second Republic and the Civil War, it had eight generals and one revolted.
If Barcelona did not fall on July 18, 1936 was thanks to General Aranguren, shot in April 1939. Civil guards give everything for others, to life if necessary, and do not ask anything in return.
At most a decent salary and fair labor rights.
They are also workers.
But what do we do for the Civil Guard? What civil society can do for the Civil Guard?
Well, a lot;
for example, be grateful and be very attentive to their concerns and just professional demands by showing them our unconditional support at the political level with more actions, and with fewer empty words.
This coming October 12 is a good opportunity to take to the streets, to support them and to thank them, and to celebrate, more than ever, the day of our nation and of HISPANITY together with our Spanish-American brothers who so desire.
