The Councilor of Emergencies thanks and congratulates the volunteers and Fire Prevention and Extinction Corps the work performed this summer in the municipality within the Infomur Plan (06/10/2017)

The Councilor for Emergencies of the City of Totana, Agustín Gonzalo Martínez, has thanked and publicly congratulated the volunteers and representatives of the Fire Prevention and Extinguishing Corps for the commendable work performed during the summer months in this municipality under the Plan Infomur.

The mayor has expressed his congratulations, above all, to the volunteers of Civil Protection and to the firefighters and brigadistas that have carried out works of prevention and extinction of fires within the municipality, mainly in the regional park of Sierra Espuña, and in the set of the Region of Murcia.

The councilman of Totana participated yesterday in the fairgrounds of La Fica, in Murcia, along with the head of the Association of Volunteers of Civil Protection, José María Sánchez Pascual, and the municipal emergency technician, Andrés Martín Gómez, in the act of closure of the Emergency Civil Protection Plan for Forest Fires in the Region of Murcia (Infomur), which has closed its time of high danger from June to September.

The meeting was also attended by the general director of Public Safety and Emergencies, José Ramón Carrasco, and the director general of Medio Natural, Consuelo Rosauro, as well as representatives of the different bodies involved in this task in different Murcia municipalities.

Agustín Gonzalo Martínez has shown his pride and has reiterated his congratulations to volunteers, firefighters and brigadistas of Totana because, according to him, "thanks to the great work of prevention and vigilance of the mentioned bodies and volunteers, in Totana there have only been incidents anecdotal to date ".

Half of the hectares that last year in the Region

The Plan Infomur has been closed with the extinction, in that period of time, of 45 forest fires that burned 153.85 hectares of land, a figure that represents a significant reduction compared to the previous year, when the area burned was slightly more than double - 327,40 hectares.

The reduction of the affected area and the fact that only a dozen of the 45 declared fires exceeded the hectare of burned land, reveal the professionalism and efficiency of the human and material resources coordinated from the direction of the Infomur Plan, as indicated by those responsible autonomous regions.

In fact, as of the year so far, of the 84 reported forest fires only 14 affected more than one hectare of land, while the remaining 70, 83.3 percent, were shut down earlier, so they remained in conatus.

From the beginning of 2017 until the end of September, 178 hectares of land have been burned, with the average area burned by fire of 2.12 hectares, compared to almost nine hectares of national average.

The month of July has been the most damaging because of the two forest fires declared on July 7 in the Long and Sopalmo mountains in Jumilla, where more than 109 hectares of land were burned.

Both fires were caused by lightning in the municipality of Jumilla, and began in areas of very difficult access on foot.

Only eight fires were caused by natural phenomena (lightning).

The rest, by the hand of man, either intentionally, or because of negligence.

More than 500 people have been dedicated daily to monitor, coordinate and extinguish forest fires.

There have been 20 fixed surveillance posts, one helicopter with image transmission capability and 24 Civil Protection pairs in mobile surveillance.

A total of 75 people have been involved in coordination, among heads of operations, extinguishing technicians, environmental agents, transmission operators and information officers, among others.

There have also been 19 forest fire brigades, four rapid intervention brigades, three helicopters with their respective helicopter brigades, six emergency brigades and a bomber helicopter, as well as firefighters from the Fire Extinguishing and Rescue Consortium Region of Murcia and the municipal services of the municipalities of Murcia and Cartagena.

This device involves the investment of more than 12 million euros, of which just over nine are contributed by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment and the rest the Ministry of Presidency and Development.
