The Mayor of Totana, Andrés García, recently met with the president of the "Savia Foundation for Commitment and Values," Francisco Casero, with the purpose of promoting, through a motion in the City Hall, the request to the institutions and administrations involved in the figure of the so-called "Defender of Future Generations".
The head of this entity was accompanied during the meeting with the first mayor by representatives of the Cooperativa Agraria de Totana (COATO), in this case José Martínez Usero, who was the entity that promoted his visit to the town totanero.
The Consistory totanero plans to present a motion to the ordinary plenary in October requesting the United Nations, the European Parliament, the Congress of Deputies and the Regional Assembly of Murcia to create the institution "Defender of Future Generations," a proposal that is The foundation has already raised many Andalusian municipalities, which has been very well received.
A proponent of future generations, changing consumer habits, promoting organic farming, a system for evaluating the impact of standards, and establishing the principle of replacing everything used in production systems some of the measures proposed by the Savia Foundation, an entity for the development and defense of the rural world.
The "Savia Foundation" warns that the involvement of all actors in all areas should be a responsibility and priority of the Administration, otherwise it will not be the "real transformation" needed to combat global crime.
The organization also demands the application of intelligent legislation criteria, with formulas for evaluating the impact of the rules that allow to determine the economic, social and environmental consequences of a norm, as well as their adaptation to the characteristics of each territory.
One of the most innovative aspects of the proposal is the creation of an Advocate for Future Generations, whose role would have specific functions for environmental protection and the fight against climate change, and for the purpose of promoting judicial actions and procedures against the environment.
The Foundation also proposes the promotion of organic production as a method that respects the environment and establishes principles of fairness, proximity and, especially, restitution and restoration, which would imply the replacement of everything used in the processes of production.
It is a criterion that has allowed the Finnish timber industry to recover and expand the forest area without limiting the growth of the sector.
The "Savia Foundation" was born with a vocation of service towards a commitment to the defense of values ​​in the rural environment, promoting and cooperating in social, economic, patrimonial, landscape and cultural development and improving the quality of the people living in it , as well as promoting the progress and defense of the ecological sector.
The maintenance of a sustainable agriculture and livestock with the conservation of the environment is also pursued, helping to maintain the territory, biodiversity, self-sufficiency and permanence, to avoid the depopulation of rural areas.
Likewise, it advocates contributing to intelligent growth that will overcome the demographic imbalance and deficiencies in infrastructure and services, by strengthening cultural identity, the interconnection of knowledge and wisdom, and the self-esteem of rural society.
