The City of Totana, at the initiative of the Department of Citizen Security and Traffic, has asked the Directorate General of Highways of the Region of Murcia to place danger and warning signs on several highways in this municipality that are highly frequented by cyclists.
For this reason, this Council has recently asked the competent body in the management and control of traffic in these roads, the placement of danger signs and timely warning in different points of the tracks as it passes through the municipality in order to minimize the risks that all road users may suffer.
The roads RM-502 and RM-503, in the stretches from Totana to Aledo and from Aledo to Zarzadilla de Totana, both within the municipal term totanero, are frequently frequented by cyclists who go up to Aledo, Zarzadilla de Totana, Sierra Espuña , etc;
as well as by pedestrians who go to the Sanctuary of Santa, Eulalia located 7 kilometers from the town of Totana.
In these infrastructures, it has been observed that in these sections there is no specific signaling that warns drivers of such danger, as it exists on other roads in the Region that are also widely used by athletes, cyclists and walkers .
According to sources from the Department of Public Safety and Traffic, in recent months there have been several serious accidents involving Spanish cyclists on Spanish roads, and an information campaign is being carried out at the national level to raise awareness of the measures safety to be taken by road users, when they are running close or are going to overtake a rider.
