Members of the management team of the IES "Juan de la Cierva and Codorniú" of Totana have recently met with the mayor of this town, Andrés García Cánovas, in order to give him the International Baccalaureate (BI) Report for the 2016 academic year / 2017, as they have been doing in recent years at the end of the school year.
The director of the IAN totanero, Juan Francisco Otálora, and the secretary of the center, Javier Sancomed, presented this balance sheet document to the totanero regent that collects the main statistics, activities, evolution of the results of the diploma, results in selectivity, among other Interest related to this program.
During the year 2016, they enrolled in the second year of the IB a total of 18 students, of whom 14 were submitted to the diploma and 12 of them obtained (86%);
While in 2017, 16 students took part in this course, with 11 being presented and 8 being approved (73%).
The IES "Juan de la Cierva and Codorníu, since 2005/06 has been offering the students of this region (Totana, Lorca, Alhama, Librilla and Mazarrón) the possibility of studying the International Baccalaureate Diploma program, making it compatible with Curriculum of the Spanish Baccalaureate.
This allows them, in addition to obtaining the ordinary title of the national baccalaureate, to be able to present themselves to obtain the International Diploma, a prestigious title worldwide, and, in any case, to obtain a more solid preparation to begin university studies.
The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), based in Geneva (Switzerland), after a thorough inspection of our center during the 2004-05 academic year, authorized us to teach these courses and to present candidates for the International Diploma.
The Ministry of Education of the Autonomous Community of Murcia, in the Order of October 6, 2005, authorized the IES totanero to teach the International Baccalaureate, matching them with those of the curriculum of the Spanish baccalaureate.
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, proposed by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), is a comprehensive training plan with a rigorous and rigorous curriculum of two years, which is carried out in parallel and in conjunction with the two courses of the Baccalaureate Curriculum Spanish.
These are two independent degrees from each other.
The title of the Spanish baccalaureate is awarded by the Ministry of Education through the qualifications placed by the teachers of the institute, according to the usual evaluation criteria of the baccalaureate.
The International Baccalaureate diploma is awarded by the IBO following the performance of tests proposed and corrected by teachers of the international organization.
The general objectives of IB are to train students with a balanced, broad and autonomous education, to promote the formation of citizens of the world concerned with understanding and solidarity, as well as to facilitate their international mobility.
For the student it means accepting the responsibility of a greater number of teaching hours in the institute and the commitment of the daily work.
It is a baccalaureate for students willing to work and with a satisfactory base in ESO, restless and concerned about a good personal formation.
