Andres Garcia Cánovas, candidate of the PSOE in the last municipal elections of 2015, today took over the mayoralty of Totana for the next two years that remain of legislature replacing Juan José Cánovas, under the agreement of legislature signed two years ago between This political formation and its government partner Ganar Totana-IU.
The theater of the Sociocultural Center "La Cárcel" hosted the celebration of the extraordinary plenary session of the inauguration of the second round of municipal government in which Andrés García assumes his new position after being first deputy mayor during the first two years of his term, And thus relieving the outgoing Mayor of Ganar Totana-IU, Juan José Cánovas.
The solemn ceremony was attended by a large audience that filled this socio-cultural infrastructure, among which socialist mayors of different Murcia municipalities and national deputies and in the Regional Assembly of this same party, as well as militants and sympathizers of the party of the new mayor and Neighbors in general.
Among them were the general secretary of the PSRM-PSOE, Rafael González Tovar, and the socialist deputy totanero, Alfonso Martinez Baños, among others.
During his speech, the new mayor of Totana announced that he will put all his efforts in laying the groundwork for a definitive solution to the economic situation of the City, which happens, he said, "by a refinancing of the totality of the long debt Term to a preferential interest, and in the forgiveness of the existing one with the Tax Agency and Social Security.
In addition, he explained his claim to improve municipal collection by imposing a tax on electric lines of medium and high voltage.
He also referred to the opening of the La Santa hotel and make La Bastida "our cultural and tourist identity";
And proposed the creation of the La Bastida Foundation with public and private participation, while expressing its intention to make the former Center for Craft Technology a "space for tourist information of our city."
He added that he will submit to the neighbors' consideration the project for the semi-urbanization of the urban center, from the Plaza de las Monjas to Pilar Street, and to provide deterrent parking in the area of ​​Las Ollerías and La Yesera, respectively.
The first mayor announced his intention to recover the figure of the Defender of the Neighbor, to make the Municipal Council of Citizen Participation an "instrument of permanent relationship between the institution and citizenship";
And advocated developing a plan to modernize the city council with an "independent administration that responds to neighborhood demands and not political interests."
Andrés García reported that he will commission a project for energy efficiency and self-sufficiency of municipal buildings and announced that it will be "vindictive" with the Autonomous Community in projects such as the west ring road and the plan to improve the supply networks that allow to make the Service profitable Municipal de Aguas, among other initiatives.
Compliance with government agreement
This formal institutional act complies with the agreement of municipal government established by both political parties after the municipal elections held on May 24, 2015, which removed the government from the PP and by virtue of which the 2015/19 legislature would be Presided over by the head of the list of each of these political formations for two years each.
The agreement between the two formations contemplated the alternation in the Mayor's Office, so that Andrés García, number one of the PSOE, is from today the first mayor of Totana;
While Juan José Cánovas, leader of Ganar Totana-IU, becomes the deputy mayor and also assumes the municipal delegations of Industry, Economic Development and Archaeological Sites, portfolios that showed ediles of his formation until now.
The rest of council members keep their same delegations.
With this plenary session, Andrés García Cánovas replaces Juan José Cánovas in the Mayor's Office of the City Council of Totana staging this municipal government agreement, while the rest of councils and delegations remain the same.
In addition, Andrés García will maintain the areas of municipal management that previously boasted of Agriculture, Water and Roads.
The Municipal Corporation of Totana is made up of 21 councilors, of whom 6 are from the Socialist Party, 6 from Ganar Totana-Iu, 8 from the Popular Party and 1 from C's-Partido de la Ciudadanía, now edil not attached.
