The six municipalities of the Tourist Association of Sierra Espuaña and the Park of Sierra Espuña face an audit during this week to renew the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism, which they obtained in 2012 and which is renewed every five years
Since last Monday, representatives of the "Europarc Network" have held meetings with municipalities, associations and entrepreneurs involved in the development of tourism in this region that form the municipalities of Aledo, Alhama de Murcia, Librilla, Mula, Pliego and Totana .
The mayors met last Tuesday with representatives in the muleña hamlet of Casas Nuevas, which dealt with topics such as the conservation of landscapes and their use of tourism, the implementation of the brand "Territorio Sierra Espuña" or the Potential of the water culture in the region as a differentiating element of other tourist destinations.
The managers of the protected area, the promotion technicians of the Institute of Tourism and the Commonwealth as well as associations of neighbors, tourist entrepreneurs and nature conservation, have also met with the delegation of Europarc.
The auditors will issue a report that will be sent to the Council of Europarc, in charge of granting the renewal of the certification.
The Europarc Federation is a pan-European organization that forms a network of natural spaces of more than 36 countries and has the aim of improving the management of natural spaces and their conservation.
Since the Sierra Espuña and the 6 municipalities of the Commonwealth launched this participative work tool in 2012, more than seventy improvement actions have been carried out at the destination and 18 tourism companies with the mark have been certified.
In addition, since this year the territory has a new plan for actions to be developed until 2021, which has been developed in a shared way among more than 30 public and private organizations and even neighbors and companies that, without belonging to any association, have also wanted Make their contributions to the project.
