The University of Murcia (UMU) and the City of Totana have today signed an agreement whereby the educational institution creates a permanent university extension in this municipality, as reported from the university in a statement.
The Vice-Rector for Training and Innovation, Pedro Miralles, said during the signing ceremony, held at the University's Rectorate, that the UMU's commitment to closer relations with the municipalities of the Region has led to a two-year Passed from 11 to 21 permanent seats.
At Totana's headquarters, which will be led by the teacher of Medieval History María Martínez, training courses (languages, Senior Classroom, etc.) and activities for the promotion of culture and sport will be possible.
During the ceremony, the rector of the UMU, José Orihuela, and the mayor of Totana, Juan José Cánovas, have also signed a voluntary university agreement.
The same, as explained by the Vice Chancellor of Students, Carmen Ferrándiz, will extend the assistance provided by UMU volunteers in activities of school reinforcement of the town to other actions of a social and environmental type that are carried out from the Consistory.
The mayor of Totana has shown pride in being able to collaborate with the University of Murcia, a "centennial institution that is the closest to citizens," he said.
"We speak of the XXI century as the Information Society, and these agreements go in the line of deepening in that Society of Knowledge," added Cánovas.
As a closing ceremony, the Rector Orihuela has referred to the pride that supposes for the educational institution to be able to transmit all this university spirit, while it has expressed the support of the UMU so that in the headquarters of Totana the maximum possible activities are developed.
