The General Directorate of Cultural Property has recently authorized the City of Totana to develop the basic and implementation project for the rehabilitation of the source "Juan de Uzeta" from the point of view of cultural heritage monument.
The source is in the protection environment of the church of Santiago, declared a Cultural Interest.
The report of the Historic Heritage Service concludes that "the planned intervention in the reference property does not endanger the integrity of the temple and does not alter its contemplation."
In addition, the current architectural and landscape characteristics in the project intervention area are "degrading to the monument", assuming the rehabilitation of the source and its immediate surroundings an improvement of them.
The Plenary of Totana agreed last September, unanimously, to request the Ministry of Culture and Portavocía to subsidize the total cost of the rehabilitation works of the source "Juan de Uzeta" and its environment, given its state of deterioration.
This baroque-style monument was built in the 18th century and is situated as part of an urban complex of great artistic and cultural value.
From a time to this part, they have observed in the monument signs of an advanced degenerative state, with an evident esthetic degradation and problems of operation of the water flows.
The councilor of Historic Heritage of the City of Totana, Inmaculada Blázquez, raised a motion in its day requesting a subsidy to the Autonomous Community to rehabilitate in an integral way the source Juan de Uzeta and its surroundings, located next to the Plaza de la Constitución.
This monument is an iconic element of reference for Totana that was projected by totanero Silvestre Martínez Teruel, a multifaceted personage of his time who is attributed to him other important works in the municipality.
It is a work worthy of being highlighted because despite being created by a vital need as was the supply of drinking water for the inhabitants of the city, was covered with a careful artistic aesthetic that turned her beauty into a valuable element Cultural and a symbol of identity for Totana.
