Due to the rigorous measures imposed by the Ministry of Water, Agriculture and the Environment on the prevention of forest fires, it was communicated in an official writing to this City Council, that "only the firing of fires in stone infrastructures would be authorized, the use Of vegetable and gaseous fuel (preferably the latter) and outside of them, only the use of gaseous fuel is authorized. "
"The lighting of fires will take place in recreational areas called" El Grifo "and" La Santa "where there are fixed and permanent infrastructures specially qualified for this purpose and contemplated in the Order of May 24, 2010, Agriculture and Water, which establishes the measures of prevention of forest fires in the Region of Murcia for the year 2010. The pilgrimages of December 8 and January 7, respectively, are an important historical and cultural tradition, as well as a unique identity of our Municipality.
Already in the seventeenth century, the first signs of what would become over the centuries in a tradition totanera that is transmitted from parents to children and continues today more alive than ever.
A tradition that unites us as a people and with our roots through the music of the crews and the typical dishes of our land.
We also feel a great respect for the protection of our natural surroundings, being the totaneros who we have the greatest interest to protect and preserve our beautiful place of La Santa.
Proof of this, is that no incident has occurred during the celebration of these traditional pilgrimages, thanks to the responsibility and care shown in the course of the same.
On the part of the City Council, all security protocols, prevention measures will be established and all personnel within our reach will be made available to the security of our environment to ensure the normal course of the pilgrimage days.
For all the above, the Ganar Totana IU Municipal Group raises the following proposed agreement to the plenary:
FIRST: We urge the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Environment, to issue a resolution that exceptionally on December 8 and January 7, allowing all necessary safety measures to be taken, to carry out vegetable fires in La Santa In order to preserve a historical and cultural tradition rooted in the town of Totana.
