The Department of Culture of the City of Totana yesterday a simple tribute to the first librarian of this service, Maria Lourdes Martinez Canovas, and the two oldest active users, Martin Romero Andreo and Francisco García Molina, coinciding with the act of the 50 anniversary of the public library "Mateo Garcia" in this town.
The event was held at the library located in the Socio-Cultural Center "Jail" and was attended by the mayor, Juan José Canovas, and the councilman of Culture, Eulalia Moreno, as well as other members of the totanera Municipal Corporation, service workers now and relatives of the honorees, among others.
The initiative to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the municipal library "Mateo Garcia" consisted of an open day and was held to mark the "International Day of the Library", with which it was intended to show the evolution of the service since its origins to the present.
The day was an emotional meeting in which participated the writer and totanero historian Gines Rosa, with the reading of a story from his book "Totana Endearing", in which it appears how and when the library opened, located then next to the building consistorial in Totana Mayor Sevilla street;
and with which they reviewed some of the historical anecdotes of the operation of the service.
During the ceremony, in which a retrospective video of the last decades of the library is also projected, also they involved the first librarian and who promoted this municipal service and two senior partners who narrated his experience and experiences throughout weather.
He also featured an exhibition of documents and photographs founding era on the path that has taken the public library in this county.
Earlier in the children's room, he took out the Animation Workshop of Reading "Doctor cuentitis", in which children between 6 and 9 years old, participated in the account of the history of the library, and decorated the cake birthday made for this purpose.
