MANIFESTO OF THE CITY OF TOTANA
"Against all violence against women and girls"
Progress towards equality is the best way to prevent and address gender-based violence.
Abuse and aggression against women and girls is a serious violation of human rights and represent the most violent manifestation of existing social inequalities between men and women.
It is therefore a structural problem, directly linked to the different power situations in which people are because of their gender.
Violence is an abuse of the dominant position occupied by men in society and in the collective imagination and, to that extent, constitutes both a manifestation and an instrument for maintaining discrimination against women.
Consequently, the only effective way to address the causes of gender-based violence through the advancement of real equality among all people.
Since the social problem of violence against women has many dimensions, in addition to contextualize it in a structural vision it requires a global response.
It is not enough to actions aimed at eradicating the most obvious discrimination, but must integrate harmoniously two major areas: prevention and institutional care.
Since 1995, over 1,400 women have been killed by the macho terrorism.
So far this year have recorded 38 killings of women by men.
Women and children suffer patriarchal violence in multiple ways and this is just the tip of the iceberg.
It is time to call upon every person, every institution, every political party, every government not to be complicit in this barbarity and streamline the institutional response.
The basic condition to effectively address gender-based violence is the recognition, by the public authorities, of the size and importance of the problem.
It is a violation of fundamental rights that affects directly or indirectly half of the population, so that should be dealt with similar to that used to other serious social problems relating to security or public health decision.
There can be no improvisations, merely symbolic actions, or voluntarism.
At the request of the feminist movement, whose internal plurality, strategic differences, their tactics diversity and assignment to various theoretical paradigms proposed consensus parties and institutions to collect their proposals in programs and institutional action,
