Councilwoman Heritage City of Totana, Inmaculada Blazquez, has raised a motion to the full September requesting a grant to the Autonomous Community to rehabilitate holistically source Juan de Uzeta and its surroundings, located next to the square Constitution.
This Baroque monument was built in the eighteenth century and is located as part of an urban set of great artistic and cultural value.
The work now known as the "Source Juan de Uzeta" is an element of iconic reference for Totana which was designed by the totanero Silvestre Martinez Teruel, a multifaceted character of his time who attributed other important works in the municipality.
It is a work worthy of being highlighted because despite being created by a vital necessity as was the supply of drinking water to the inhabitants of the city, was covered with a neat artistic aesthetic that turned its beauty into an element of great value cultural and a symbol of identity for Totana.
A time now, have been observed at the memorial signs of advanced degenerative state, with an obvious aesthetic and performance problems of water flows degradation, according to the proposal is collected.
These observations are confirmed by the Center for Restoration of the Region of Murcia, in a recent report communicate the poor state of conservation of the source and eroded surfaces, dirt deposits, lack of support or materials, cracks, crevices and landslides, deterioration of mortars and pipes from previous restorations, deteriorating plumbing fixtures and appearance of marble veiled.
All this confirms the urgent need for deep conservation action to avoid the loss of original elements of the work and restore the monument a dignified image.
According to a previous study commissioned by the city of Totana, the total cost of this project complete restoration would add the amount of 60,000 euros.
