The Councillor for Environment and Public Safety, Agustin Gonzalo Martinez, has raised a motion to the full asking the Ministries of Environment, Presidency and Spokesman expanding personal and technical resources for the forest catch the municipality of Totana, in order to to develop in optimum conditions the fire prevention work and threats that may occur in Sierra Espuña.
Totana has a vast natural heritage that must be preserved and protected, highlighting areas like the pine forests of La Santa and the Regional Park of Sierra Espuña, as recorded by the motion.
The drought that has been suffering for some years in Totana, as well as the considerable increase in temperatures in the summer periods, makes the current circumstances of the environment are compromised and significantly increases the chances of risk in our forest environments.
Therefore, and also taking into account the wide range of surface to be protected and controlled, it is needed more staff as part of forest checkpoints and ensure the safety of our natural spaces.
Currently, the Brigade with which the municipality of Totana, covers a period which excludes from November to April, approximately, so it is necessary to increase the personal resources to ensure the safety of our forest environments during the twelve months of the year .
It also requires a renewal of the technicians who tells the forest brigade of Totana, in order to respond more effectively to any risk or threat resources.
Currently, the only vehicle available to us for this purpose is not in optimal conditions, since it is a tanker which was acquired two decades ago and whose ability to transport water in case of emergency is only 3,000 liters, while the current tanks have capacities of up to 4,500 liters.
These measures will result in greater efficiency in the work of fire prevention and threats that may occur in our environment Espuña, and avoid the economic costs and the landscape and environmental impact would not have the personal resources and technicians to respond quickly to an emergency.
With this motion, the Department of Environment intends to give response to these demands in seeking to ensure the protection and conservation of the Sierra Espuña Regional Park.
