The Ministry of Employment, Universities, Business and the Environment has recently granted the Totana City Council a subsidy for a total amount of 20,000 euros that will allow the adaptation and improvement of urban commercial spaces in Puente and San Antonio streets, by virtue of of a line of aid after the project and request sent by the Totanero Consistory. The Councilor for Commerce, Javier Baños, has reported that last August, the City Council requested said assistance within the framework of the Order of June 14, 2018, which established the regulatory bases for the concession of Subsidies to Local Corporations of the Region of Murcia for the modernization of municipal food markets and the adaptation of municipal commercial infrastructures. The project presented was framed in the line of action number 3 contemplated in these bases, which was destined to the reactivation of urban shopping centers, explained Javier Baños. The aim is to improve municipal spaces and infrastructures in order to make these commercial places an attractive place for the exercise of sales; such as pedestrianization of streets and squares with a large commercial influx, signage and commercial identification, urban remodeling, improvement of lighting, as well as others that affect these aspects. The project related to Totana deals with the revitalization of traditional commerce through the creation and definition of a commercial axis that implies an improvement in urban conditions in this area, specifically in Puente and San Antonio streets.

With this action, the aim is to expand the pedestrian traffic areas, defining and regulating the loading and unloading areas, creating short-term parking areas, planting new trees and the possibility of rest areas. All this in order to increase the pedestrian use of this main road, through its attractiveness and comfort, which will result in greater displacements, greater visibility for businesses and increase purchases and sales. The total budget for the action amounts to 33,831.86 euros and a subsidy was requested for the amount of 20,000.00 euros, which represents 59.12% of the total budget. In this way, the Totana City Council acquires the commitment to make a municipal contribution for the remaining 40.88%, equivalent to 13,831.86 euros, according to the mayor Javier Baños. On December 16, the Totana City Council received the official notification of the concession for this project for the adaptation of urban commercial spaces on Puente and San Antonio streets, two large roads Comercial activity; being the grant awarded of 20,000 euros and the amount to be justified of 33,831.86 euros, as reflected in the total budget thereof.
