| The PSOE of Totana meets with the archaeologists of the Bastida and demands transparency and protection for the cultural heritage from the mayor | Yesterday, Sunday, November 1, the PSOE of Totana met with archaeologists from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, ??who have been working on the Bastida project since 2011 to better understand what is happening and draw the following conclusions.The face-to-face security of archaeological assets and excavation and conservation materials is necessary both for protection and for the Autonomous Community to allow said assets to remain in Totana.However, the municipal government of Ganar Totana-IU, has not done anything since in July they learned of the need to make a small budget adjustment to pay for the surveillance of the deposit in the last two months of this year.We have also learned that since then, the mayor, Juan José Cánovas and the councilor for archaeological sites, Verónica Carricondo, have repeatedly insisted to the Directorate of Cultural Assets of the Autonomous Community that they move all archaeological material out of Totana.All this has been stealthily and stealthily carried out during these months of pandemic, preventing the public and the rest of the political parties from learning about the matter.

This occultism was confirmed when last Thursday, the Socialist Group, asked in plenary session about the matter without obtaining any kind of response from the mayor and the councilor.

What we still do not understand are the reasons that have led the Totana Government Team to act without any transparency.What we do know is that the Councilor for the field, an archaeologist by profession, has been unable to ensure the protection of the cultural heritage of La Bastida.

In addition, from the PSOE we consider that the lack of interest is evident since in the last plenary session of October a budget modification of almost € 800,000 was made in which it does not mention the case.

Neither have other possibilities been explored to subsidize the project through State subsidies such as the 1.5% Cultural for the conservation of architectural heritage, which confirms the neglect and lack of interest.The transfer of archaeological material is an almost impossible loss to recover once the pieces have been taken, in addition to the unnecessary risk and cost involved in moving them.

This loss is not only a lack of vision for the future, by losing a point of tourist interest already known worldwide, but also a lack of interest in the cultural heritage of our citizens and therefore, of our historical identity.The Socialist Group considers the lack of transparency of the mayor and his councilor to the public inadmissible and demands explanations and urgent measures aimed at guaranteeing that the material from La Bastida is not transferred.
